Engine and Thermodynamics

In engineering, we often deal with physical processes (think for example of the combustion of fuel) and the resultant forces. The engine specifications (displacement, compression ratio, valve timing, tangential forces) as well as environmental factors determine the torque delivered to the crankshaft. Through measurements and calculations, one can determine how a combustion process occurs (indicator diagram) and can be optimized to reduce fuel consumption and exhaust gas emissions.
